November 7, 2010 Minutes
Meeting called to order at 2:10 p.m.

Mark Gibson, Marie Gibson, Mark Amico, Herb James, Rob Jerry, Sean
(Jackson) Smith, Neil McNeil, Sue Bennett, Theresa (Fluffy) White
Division
Financial Report
Bad news:
The Division is still losing a reasonably small amount of money each
year.
Good news: We still have
money to lose. The possibility of
raising the boat tax by $1.00 was discussed.
The feeling was that we shouldn’t worry about it for the time being.
If regatta attendance increases again this year, the problem will likely
work itself out.
Division
Racing Equipment Report
We lost our
large yellow tetrahedron mark in Buffalo, along with the tackle.
Fleet 119 promptly donated one of their yellow cylinder marks, so we
still have a change mark, but we have one fewer anchor than last year.
Reports from
Members
It’s worth
noting that ALL Division 16 regattas showed an increase in attendance last year.
Schedule setting is somewhat difficult, given that we are trying to
coordinate with the F-18 class. We
set the following dates for the 2011 summer schedule:
·
Fleet 204
(Syracuse)
– Madcatter, May 20-22
·
Fleet 183
(Toronto)
– Flying High, June 4-5
·
Canandaigua
Yacht Club (Canandaigua)–
CMOR, Sept 17-18. Boat boys (and
girls!) will be back!
The dates for
the following events are under consideration:
·
Fleet 119
(Buffalo)
– July 9/10 or July 23/24
·
Fleet 295
(Rochester)
– July 30/31 or August 6/7. Would
like F-18s, but if it becomes necessary, would step up for the NE Championships.
The following
events were discussed, but no firm decision was made:
·
Kingston
–
The management at Kingston would like to host a regatta for this season.
However, we have not been able to reconcile the budget from the NACs that
was held there last year primarily because the management has not released the
numbers. We decided not to have a
regatta there until this can be resolved.
·
Women’s
Representative
– A written request was submitted to inquire about a similar regatta to last
year’s event. Consensus was reached
that rather than a similar regatta at last year’s venue, other things might
benefit women’s racing. Recognition
of female skippers at each event, for example, could be an important part of
encouraging women to take the helm.
The difficulty of finding a home for the Women’s NAC was brought up – given that
merging the event with the H14s, H17s, H18s, and Waves would mean that some
children (and their teachers!) weren’t yet out of school.
Canandaigua Yacht Club indicated an interest in putting in a bid for the
Women’s NAC.
·
Youth
Representative
– A training day was suggested, in which women skippers would be welcome to
participate, for July 1 or 2. It
would be low key, with plenty of “on the water” drills.
Also, the idea of trying to get Wildwood to host the Youth nationals was
discussed. We also thought that
Division 11’s idea of starting a Facebook page was a good one, so Trey James
will look into that.
Old Business
·
Please
contribute content to the website!!
It’s only as good as we make it.
New Business
·
AGM written
report was provided.
·
F-18 Boat Tax
– When F-18s sail in some co-sponsored events, they are taxed by both Hobie ($2)
and F-18 ($5) organizations. We
decided that this is fair and appropriate, and that the regatta chairs need to
decide how to handle it – possibly by charging F-18s a little more participate.
·
Proposed Bylaw Revisions
The following
bylaw revisions were proposed by the scorekeeper.
o
Section 12.5.
Proposed revision entails elimination the fleet requirement.
o
Section 12.6
has been proposed for elimination.
If people are not amenable to eliminating the entire section, then at least
sections 12.6.3 and 12.6.4.
o
The 1.5
modifier for either Division Championship and/or NE Champs should be eliminated.
The number of boats are already included in the national scoring.
The people
assembled felt that these changes should be tabled until the scorekeeper was
present.
·
Booklet and
Postcard
– Postcards represent a large part of our budget.
If we got email addresses at registration next year, we could potentially
reduce that cost. Meanwhile, we
still need someone to step up and assemble the on-line version of the booklet
for next year.
·
Nominations
of Officers
–
o
Scoring for
next year – Still Billy Jeffers!
o
Website for
next year – Our webmaster, Brian Allston, has indicated that after many years of
service, he would like to step down from the post.
We would like to work with him to figure out a smooth transition.
o
New Chair
Nominations – Rico Quatrone, from Fleet 204 has put forward his name to replace
Fluffy as Chair. Though there are no
other nominees, he will be officially elected at the Spring meeting.
The new Chair will run the next fall meeting.
Meeting
adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
